We aim to support monitoring of the current guidelines and scientific evidence in the management ofAge-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) in order to augment retinal specialists to develop a clinicallyoriented and consensual protocol for therapeutic approaches for AMD. First, we are engineering anontology for AMD retinal condition using information from literature, related medical ontologies anddomain knowledge from ophthalmologists. Second, we augment the knowledge engineer capabilities topopulate and enrich the ontology using structured knowledge extracted from medical literature withthe GPT-3 language model. Third, we perform reasoning to signal to the ophthalmologist differences orinconsistencies among different clinical studies, protocols or therapeutic approaches

Voi prezenta solutii Deep Learning in sprijinul oftalmologului la pacientii cu Degenerescenta Maculara Legata de Varsta (DMLV). (DMLV) este una dintre cele mai frecvente cauze de scadere a vederii la nivel mondial. In Europa, in 2040 se asteapta ca numarul persoanelor cu DMLV precoce sa varieze intre 14.9 si 21.5 milioane, iar al celor cu DMLV avansata, intre 3.9 si 4.8 milioane. Solutiile pe baza de Machine Learning, Expert Knowledge si Explainable AI au fost dezvoltate in cadrul grupului Sisteme Inteligente, UTCN in colaborare cu UMF Iuliu Hatieganu, Departamentul de Oftalmologie. Noutatea medicala rezulta din cautarea unor explicatii mai bune privind patogeneza DMLV pe baza tehnicilor de Deep Learning. Tehnologic noutatea rezulta din invatarea procesului de a prezice evolutia bolii pe baza secventelor de imagini preluate la vizite successive si din transmiterea catre oftalmolog a explicatiei care a condus la respectiva concluzie obtinuta prin Inteligenta Artificiala.

Even if interleaving argument and explanation is common practicein daily communication the task of extending argumentation theory with the concept of expla-nation is still challinging. The fusion of argument and explanation is best shown by the fact that humans tend to makedecisions both on knowledge and understandin.
