Research experience

  • Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), ASR with Hidden Markov Models (HMM) and Multiple Vector Quatization (MVQ), interactive distance learning technologies for speech coding
  • Text to speech synthesis using diphone concatenation: creation of diphone database, extraction of acoustic features of diphones, basic text processing for automatic phonological transcription, experimentation of PSOLA and TD-PSOLA for pitch control
  • The application of non-linear subband decomposition of speech signal, wavelet analysis, fractal analysis or adaptive filtering (LMS, nLMS, RLS) for noise enhancement of speech and for speech enpoint detection in noisy environments
  • Interactive voice response systems for information retrieval over the telephone line
  • Implementation of the web-platforms applied in eLearning (CONCORDE: www.concorde.utcluj.ro, OCTOPUS: www.octopus-eu.org, SMECTRA: www.smectra.net, POOL: www.pool.fh-sbg.ac.at) and of the web environments for virtual collaboration.
  • Software tools for: virtual collaboration, online project management, eLearning counselling
  • ASR with Semicontinuous HMM, speech analysis using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), speech encoding with ADPCM, RASTA-PLP analysis of speech, ASR with Time Delay Neural Networks (TDNN), computerized MIDI music synthesis, CELP vocoder for multimedia applications, temporal decomposition of speech.
  • ASR using acoustic segmentation and Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP), speech compression using Vector Quantization (VQ), speech acquisition board based on CVSD MC3417, speech analysis algorithms on TMS 320C30 signal processor.
