Welcome

My name is Vlad-Cristian Miclea and I am a Senior Lecturer at Technical University of Cluj-Napoca in the Computer Science Department.

About me

Education

I have studied at the Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, TUCN, between 2009 and 2013. In 2013, I have graduated as a Diploma Engineer in Computer Science, with the thesis "Cryptography on Reconfigurable Hardware", under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Eng. Octavian Cret.

In 2014 I received a MSc diploma in Fundamental Informatics, graduating from the Computer Science Department at Ecole Normale Superieure, Lyon, France. My diploma thesis "ProCoJuRi - A Processor Computing Just Right" was done under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Florent de Dinechin.

In 2021 I received the PhD degree in computer scence (title "Summa cum laude"). My thesis "Real-time Depth Perception Techniques using Machine Learning" was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ing. Sergiu Nedevschi.

Work

Since 2014 I'm a member of the Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Research Center (IPPRRC), where my main research topics are related to depth perception improvement by means of machiene learning and especially deep learning.

Since 2021 I am a Senior Lecturer at the Computer Science Department at TUCN, teaching subjects related to reconfigurable hardware: Logic Design, Digital System Design, Computer Architecture and Structure of Computing Systems. I have previously been an Assistant Professor (2019-2021) and a Teaching Assistent (2014-2019) for all these subjects.

Research

Starting with 2014, as an IPPRRC member, I've been involved in Horizon 2020, FP7 European projects and national research grants.

My research activities and experience are mainly related to machine learning techniques, applied for depth computation, generally in the context of autonomous systems.

Previously, I have been an research intern in the SOCRATE team, at CITI Lab in Lyon, France and in the CARAMEL (currently CARAMBA) team, at INRIA , Nancy, France, developing computer arithmetic circuits on FPGAs.

I serve as a reviewer for several ISI Journals such as IEEE T-ITS, IEEE T-IV, IEEE TGRS and several ISI Proceedings conferences IEEE-IV, IEEE-ITSC. I am a member of the organizing committee of IEEE-ICCP.
