Corrosion and Anticorrosive Protection

Corrosion can be defined as: the deterioration of a material, usually a metal, that results from a reaction with its environment. The course focuses on corrosion and the potential problems caused by corrosion. It provides a basic but thorough review of causes of corrosion and the methods by which it can be identified, monitored, and controlled. Students are encouraged through hands-on experiments and case studies, as well as an open discussion format.

Surface Engineering

Surface Engineering can be defined as: "the design of the surface in the context of the whole component to give cost effective performance enhancement". Subjects studied relate to component and system design, manufacturing, maintenance and repair within the following industrial sectors - automotive, aeronautical, biomedical, chemical and energy, electrical and electronic engineering, material processing and tool manufacture.
