Research
My research interests lie at the intersection of dependable systems, distributed and Internet-based technologies, and applied intelligent systems. I am interested in both conceptual and implementation-oriented work, especially where software, communications, automation, and real-world deployment meet.
Dependability, reliability, and diagnosis
A significant part of my work is related to system dependability, reliability, diagnosis, testability, and availability. These topics connect both to my teaching and to my research on dependable distributed and embedded systems.
- System dependability and availability
- Reliability and diagnosis
- Design for testability
- Testing and repair of distributed systems
- Monitoring and reconfigurable systems
Web, distributed, and cloud-fog-edge systems
I have long-standing interests in web technologies, distributed systems, and Internet-based applications, including cloud-fog-edge architectures and service-oriented solutions. Earlier work on Internet-based process control and distributed built-in self-test evolved naturally toward wider distributed and hybrid systems.
- Web technologies and Internet applications
- Distributed systems and communication systems
- Cloud-fog-edge environments
- Service-oriented and hybrid architectures
- Academic and conference information systems
AI, machine learning, and intelligent systems
Another area of interest is the use of machine learning and neural networks, especially in applied settings and on resource-constrained platforms. I am particularly interested in how intelligent methods can be used in dependable, real-time, or practically deployed systems.
- Machine learning
- Neural networks in edge computing
- Resource-constrained intelligent platforms
- Applied AI in engineering and informatics
Applied digital systems
I am also interested in the application of digital technologies in broader engineering and societal contexts, including Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, educational technologies, e-health, and transport electrification.
- Internet of Things
- Cyber-physical systems
- Educational technologies
- E-health systems
- Electrification of transport
Selected projects
- Contributions to the Design for Testability of Distributed Systems - CNCSIS Td project, coordinated research activity
- CyCloSe - Romanian-Italian bilateral collaboration on cloud-based cyber-physical systems
- ROBIN - project involvement related to robots, cognitive systems, and autonomous vehicles
- Earlier work included distributed BIST, mobile-access testing, multi-agent approaches, and Internet-based remote control of processes
