RESEARCHES AIMING PARTIAL SUBSTITUTION OF DIESEL FUELS FOR DIESEL ENGINE
WITH BIODIESEL-DIESEL-BIOETHANOL MIXTURES
Contract length: 3 years (october. 2007 - september. 2010)
Abstract
The continuously growing population, the technical development determines also an important growth of the traffic needs. One of the dangerous results is the day by day pressure on the environment. Reduceing it, means to reduce pollution, energy consumption and energy dependence.
An important solution consists in using biofuels. The first generation of biofuels tries to replace the classical fuels with fuels based based on vegetable oils for diesel engines and bioalcohols for spark ignition engines.
A main disadvantage of the vegetable oil based biofuels is their higher viscosity which does not allow a good fuel-air mixture and combustion - a reason for some automobile producers to interdict their use.
Today biofuels are used in mixtures with diesel fuel (max. 5%) or in special engines improving the qualities of the biofuels with additives.
This project proposes to produce and study theoretically and experimentally mixtures of biodiesel¬-diesel fuel and bioalcohols with diesel fuel like properties to renounce on expensive and unecological additives . The main obiective of the project is to develop and experiment a new type of biofuel mixture of biodiesel, diesel fuel and bioalcohols to be used in diesel engines. The results of the research should substitute conventional fuels for diesel engines in a 5-20%, not reducing the effective power of the engines under the acceptable level of 5-8% - aiming thus the goals of the EC Directive 2003/30/EC (2010 -5.75%, 2020 - 10%).
The theoretical and experimental objectives are: evaluation of the physical, chemical and technological properties of different mixtures, modelling and simulation of the injection order to optimize the properties of the mixtures, experimental tests and recommendations.
There are also i view the study of the economical and pollution parameters of these mixtures.
